Soap is produced through a chemical reaction that occurs when fats and oils are combined with a lye solution. This process is called saponification. The soap is "safe" to use after 48 hours, however, in order for the soap to last longer, it needs to harden. I let my soaps sit for a month (especially The Perfect Man soap...that one needs a little extra "training").
After much research and testing, I have developed an amazing soap that is very moisturizing and conditioning to the skin (including the face!) and creates a great lather. My ingredients include (but are not limited to): beef tallow, lard, coconut oil, shea butter, olive oil and castor oil. I make NO excuses for using animal fats ... they make THE BEST SOAP ... PERIOD! It makes a nice hard (not slimy) bar of soap that is VERY moisturizing and full of nutrients for your skin. If you keep your soap dry between uses, a bar of soap can last about a month with regular use.
Glycerine is a naturally occurring by-product of cold-processed soap making and remains in the soap. In many commercial "beauty bars," this is stripped out and used in other high-priced skin care products. That's why they can't label it as "soap" ... SOAP is SOAP ... a beauty bar is what's left after they take the good stuff out and add alcohol and chemicals. READ YOUR LABELS!!!!
I am a "Soap Artist"! What that means is that I start with my amazing basic recipe, add other ingredients ... essential oils, natural colorants, clays, coffee, oatmeal, charcoal, walnut shells, goat's milk powder ... the list is long. Some natural colorants are muted when combined with the oils and some artificial coloring is needed to produce a certain color. Fragrance oils are used to help retain scents in cold-processed soaps, as many essential oils lose their potency in the curing process.
When I cut a new loaf of soap, I'm like a little kid opening presents on Christmas Day! Every slice is a surprise and NO two are the same. As you can see, I'm easily entertained!
Most of my soap labeling will say 100%, 99% or 98% Natural. I use this to let my customers know:
That's still a lot of natural! There are NO CHEMICALS, NO ALCOHOL and NO PARABENS! Just a bar of AWESOMENESS that will make your skin very happy!

- 100% is essential oils AND natural colorants
- 99% is either a fragrance oil OR an artificial color
- 98% means there is a fragrance oil AND an artificial color used.
